In terms of performance, the 350Z will probably kill the RX8. The RX7 was more performance oriented, but the new RX8 now has four doors, four seats, and, so far, 37 less horsepower than the Z. The Z seems more like an enthusiast's car, with seating for only two, less weight (probably), and a rear strut bar. The RX8 seems to be aimed for more practicality. You're probably right that the Mazda will depreciate faster, but if you need to haul more than one person, it'll be your best bet. If you want all out performance, the Z will be better unless Mazda pulls off something spectacular, like it did with the Mazdaspeed Protege. But if you really want performance on the track, and not on the dragstrip, then the Honda S2000 would leave both the two eating exhaust.
